Daryl Mangosing

Community-engaged scholar in critical public health and health communication

Daryl Mangosing (they/he/she) is a Doctor of Public Health or DrPH Candidate in Berkeley Public Health whose expertise lies at the intersection of LGBTQ+/queer health disparities, community-engaged research, mixed-methods, and Critical Theory. 

For their dissertation, Daryl investigated sexualized drug use (i.e., recreational drug use to facilitate or enhance sexual activity), harm reduction approaches, and health outcomes among sexual and gender diverse people from California in the context of HIV/STI prevention and online mobile hookup applications. 

Previously, they served as a Research Communications Specialist at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and Prevention Research Center in the Division of Prevention Science at University of California, San Francisco, where they drove communication efforts and disseminated HIV prevention and public health research. 

A queer Filipino-American from Guam, Daryl received their MPH (Health Communication) from Tufts University, Boston, MA and their BA (Health Sciences) from Berea College, Berea, KY

They enjoy going out for nature/urban walks, good food and drinks, and social nightlife; attending raves/concerts; playing video games on PlayStation; and serving as the human parent for an enigmatic Bombay cat, Sienna 🐈‍⬛.
